in aid of The Bishop of Norwich’s Lent Appeal 2018

The Bishop’s Lent Appeal is this year focused on enabling local mission in the remote community of Simbai, in the Diocese of Aipo Rongo in Papua New Guinea.  This year the Diocese of Norwich celebrates the 50th Anniversary of its link with the Church in Papua New Guinea; the longest of its kind in the Church of England.  Our Lenten fund-raising will help to support the Archbishop of Papua New Guinea’s work of encouraging his clergy and their mission, and help to continue this remarkable link into the future.

What Mary said next

~ a four part Lent course based on the words of Mary, as remembered by the visionaries, in the sequence of the visions of Our Lady of the Poor.

Fr Trevor Jones SSC writes:

The sequence starts with the visions of S. Catherine Laboure in Paris in 1830 and concludes with the words of Our Lady spoken to Mariette Beco in Belgium in March 1933. This century marks a clear and distinctive series of visions containing a spirituality of Marian life. Our Lady calls disciples of Jesus to a Marian following of Gospel life.

All visionaries are caught in place of prayer, a mystical state of knowing, thus the events and words they recall from the vision-event will carry an inevitable level of misunderstanding, confusion and half-memory. During the studies I will seek to explore how the visions, their geography and location, the moment in which they happen, the gifts and failings of the visionaries and the remembered words can guide Twenty-first Century Catholic Christians to a Christ centred life through the prayers of Mary.

The course is, in part, based on a sermon preached at the Society of Mary May devotion a few years ago.
